Feztiv’art Contest 2010: Rules of the contest

    Article 1 : Introduction of the contest The artistic commission of the french junior chamber international of Shanghai, Artdidact, organizes a photography contest, Feztiv’art, which will take place in Shanghai in 2010 January 23rd-31st.

    This event allows every contestant to submit a series of 2 to 4 pictures through the website www.feztivart.com in order to be offered the opportunity to be exposed and awarded during the festival.

    This contest is opened to every individual, professional freelance photographers or amateurs, associations etc. except the members (or their families) who took part to the organization and to the final decision of the contest. The entrants, aged of 18 at least, must be residents in China, whatever their nationality. The entry to the contest is free of charge.

    Article 2 : Conditions of entries – Material specifications for entries The contest is divided into two categories of participants :

    • Photo Pro
    • Photo Amateur
    The participants, whatever the category they choose to enter, must download a series of 2 to 4 photos, which have to be taken in China.
    All files must meet the following requirements:
    • Colour and black-and-white photographs are accepted in this contest.
    • Photographs must be in digital format. The photography doesn’t necessarily need to be taken with a digital camera - scans of negatives are acceptable.
    • JPEG (.jpg) format
    • 300 dpi resolution minimum mandatory
    • 30 cm x 30 cm minimum. Square size accepted. Professional photographers, which would have been selected to be exhibited, will be allowed to bring their own printed photography and frame. However, the size should be 90cm x 180 cm maximum

    Minor burning, dodging and/or colour correction is acceptable. But multiple exposures, composite photographs and manipulated images are excluded from this contest. Please clear your pictures from copyright marks or website link.
    No theme, and not depict contents that are judged by Artdidact, at its sole and unfettered discretion, to be obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate.

    Article 3 : Procedures for the submission of entries The digital files of the entries must be uploaded directly via the internet, using an online account.
    Entrants may create an online account at the following URL.
    All entries (register form and series of photos) must be submitted and received by December 31th, 2009 at 11:59pm. Entries after this date will not be eligible for consideration.
    The application shall include the following:

    • The register form duly filled
    • A series of 2 to 4 photos to upload (see Article 2 for details about the technical criteria)
    • The online acceptance of the present document

    The terms set out above and on the entry form are binding.
    Any application that is incomplete or does not meet all the conditions of entry mentioned in articles 1, 2 and 3 will be automatically refused.
    By entering the competition, the participant agrees and acknowledges that Artdidact is permitted to receive the participant's registration data. All personal information will be used by Artdidact only after prior agreement by the contestant.


    Contestants can at any moment contact the organizers in order to access, edit and/or cancel their personal information.
    The digital files of the entries must be uploaded directly through the internet. There is no alternative way of registration.
    Each series must be accompanied by a letter in French, Chinese or English, of 1000 words maximum, presenting the project.
    All contestants will receive a confirmation of their registration within the 2 days they have submitted it. It is applicants' concern to check if sending and reception of their project by Artdidact website were carried out properly. Keeping some copies of the sent documents is strongly advised. The submitted material will not be returned.
    Artdidact assumes no responsibility for materials lost, damaged or delayed in the post.

    Article 4 : Preselection of photographs The Selection Committee of the Artdidact commission will evaluate the material submitted and use the following criteria in ranking the photographs submitted, in order to establish a short list of nominees from which the winners of the contest will be selected:

    • Accuracy of the series with the theme « Chinese Youth »
    • Aesthetic skill of the whole series submitted
    • Aesthetic and technical skill in conveying the message to the public
    • Adequation to the category where it belongs.
    • Presence of the written memo explaining the series.

    The short list of the nominees of the contest will be published on the Artdidact website www.feztivart.com by February 14th, 2010. All series selected will be exposed during the Feztiv’art.
    The day of the festival, these photographs will be judged by our jury who will select the winners of the contest.

    Article 5 : Panel of judges
    For the pro category:
    The panel of judges will comprise of distinguished photojournalists and professionals working in the field of photography, who will evaluate the selected photographs thanks/according to precise criteria, such as the relationship between artistic originality, aesthetic and technical skill in conveying a message to the public. They will take into consideration the journalistic interest as much as the artistic aspect of the series, or any other criteria they consider relevant in this contest.
    The panel of judges will reward 2 winners, one for the category pro, one for the category amateur. Their decision is final and not subject to appeal.
    The selected photographs will also be submitted to the vote of the public. The project having the highest number of votes will be awarded.

    Article 6 : Procedures for final selection of prize-winners For both pro and amateur category, the judges will publicly announce the winners during the event.
    The same day, the public will vote for their winner also.
    The list of the awards will be published on-line on the website www.feztivart.com by March 2010.

    Article 7 : Rights The entrant declares that he/she is the only copyright holder of the material submitted. The photographer declares that to the best of his/her knowledge no third party can claim any rights on the material submitted. By entering the contest, the participant represents, acknowledges and warrants that the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by the participant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the photograph.
    By entering the 2010 Feztiv’art Photography Contest, the photographer gives permission to Artdidact team to sell his work during the 2010 Festival (50% of the profit would be given to the photograph). For amateur photograph, the price would be fixed by Artdidact team while for professionnal photographers, it would be fixed by the photographer himself. The photographer also gives permission to Artdidact team to use the material submitted to the contest in eventual exhibitions resulting from the contest and in all promotional material relating to the Feztiv’art 2010.
    Artdidact hereby reserves the non-exclusive right to publish the entries of category winners and of short listed nominees in brochures or materials directly related to the contest for a period of no more than 12 months from the date of the announcement of the winners without any remuneration being due to the photographer. Artdidact will ensure due recognition and acknowledgement to the photographer.
    After the expiry of the 12 months period, Artdidact will negotiate on a case-by-case basis compensation to the photographer for any subsequent use of the material.

    Article 8 : Cancelation Artdidact reserves the right to change, postpone or cancel all or part of the 2010 Feztiv’art contest without prior notice. No compensation can be claimed in this respect.
